An Analysis of fellow classmates brief 1 blog posts

Friends

Holly’s blog posts centred around the classic American comedy, 'Friends'. The sitcom follows the professional and personal lives of six 20 to 30 year old friends living in Manhattan. Over the course of 10 years, the friends endure mayhem, family trouble, past and future romances, fights, laughs, tears and surprises and what it truely means to be a friend. I personally had always been intrigued by the show, having never watched it myself I would hear raving reviews from amid fans like Holly. Holly’s review of various good and bad fan factions created in various medians was an interesting read. As someone who has never watched the show, I was expecting to be immediately lost by my lack of understanding of the shows nuances as well as general knowledge on names, people and places that revolve around the show it’s self. However in both the analysis of the exisiting fan fictions and in Holly’s own fan faction, I read with ease and begun to develop a comprehensive understanding of the show and it’s characters without having even watched an episode. Friends is definitely a show I will be sitting down to binge watch in the coming weekends.

How I Met Your Mother

The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ fan faction written by Ravaan Hashami deeply resonated with me. The show itself is my all time favourite tv series. The fan faction written as Ravaan’s second post for Brief 1 was poignant, nostalgic and full of hope.

Throughout the duration of this well crafted short story, Ravaan expertly captured the lingo, nuances and phrases that litter the tv show making the journey through the body of text truely a warming experience, almost as if those characters I grew to know and love had returned for one last episode. Ted’s grief for his deceased wife and evident residual love for Robin is heartbreakingly portrayed. I found this fanfaction a very entertaining read, giving me the urge to hit the rewind button and rewatch the entire series.

Ten Things I Hate About You

10 Things I Hate About You is a 1999 American teen romantic comedy-drama film directed by Gil Junger and starring Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Larisa Oleynik. The fanfiction that Valencia created in response to the iconic teen film was moving, captivating and heart felt. Following flashbacks experienced by Andrew Minyard who is struggling as doubts seep into his subconscious about this marriage to Neil Josten. Navigating between past and present whilst still maintaining a clear and thought provoking message of the uncertainties love can hold, it is clear that this fanfiction was concisely planned out, with a clear message from the get go. I enjoyed the deeply metaphorical richness of Valencia's writing style, as it resonated with me very well.
